Astig, Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta

After Indonesian, Western, Chinese, Japanese, Thai or Korean food, now we may also enjoy the Filipino food which is not really common in town. Several years ago, i had been worked overseas where i've met many filipino friends out there.

What's on my mind is, Filipino food sure has different authentic seasoning and taste among other Southeast Asia countries. While the other has spicy, salty taste, Filipino food has sweet and creamy flavor. One of Filipino Restaurant here is Astig. In Tagalog, it means Cool or something related with awesome.

As informed, this restaurant just opened recently. It is run by couple, Filipino husband and Indonesian wife. Well i may say it is such a good idea to run up this business. We had quite many cuisines here, but most of all are signature menu. Start first here is Sisig.

It is stunning dish, a minced meat with beautiful sunny side egg and served on hotplate. It does smells good when turned out to table. It is available by beef of pork meat. I must say it is great food, well done seasoning and bit creamy taste in it. Beef not tender enough, but i may take it fine. What different with the pork, it is tastier. Since we know, pork has more fat that could sucked in the seasoning in it than the beef. Next dish is filipino soup called Sinigang.

It is clear broth soup with morning glory and fish. It has sour flavor and really fresh. Give a good sense to eat more and more. It also available with pork meat. I am not a fan of pork, so i think fish is better :-).

Then i have Garlic Butter Shrimp. It is quite common dish we may found in town especially in seafood restaurant. This one has nice seasoning, but i think shrimp kinda overcook and bit dry. Don't forget it served along with really tasty sauce, kinda salty but i do like it.

Another star here is Lechon Kawali. It is one of famous dish in Philippines i heard. It is quite similar with our dish here too. A grilled pork belly with crunchy skin and chewy meat served along with special thick sauce. I am not eat this one, chewy texture of meat might turned me down. But as heard, some friends said it is good, such a perfect pork belly with crunchy texture, smells good and delicate sauce.

Talking about pork, Philippines sure has many dish consisted pork as the main ingredient. Just like this one too, The Huge plate of Pork Knuckle. It is sure almost covered up other smell when turned out on table. I could smell the roasted pork meat with heavy fat.

I taste bit of it, i found out it is really crispy skin and meat cooked well done. It also served along with special sauce which is better. But for your note, It is really fat up here. Among the various meat, they also served various of sauteed vegetables, mostly similar with our Indonesian cuisines.

After all cuisines, we still have desserts here. One of famous dessert in Philippines is Halo Halo. If i do not mistake, it is means "mixture together". It is a shaved ice with various of sweet ingredients could be red beans, jelly or many else and poured with sweet milk on top.

It has nice flavor, balanced sweetness and give a fresh sense in it. With various of sweet ingredients it sure has different delightful taste. Another dessert is Egg Pudding. Looks like a caramel pudding with caramel sauce. It is taste good, balanced sweetness, but i might prefer it has moist texture more.

Overall, i must say they do served a great foods. I could taste the great and authentic Filipino cuisines with of course real Filipino recipe in there. Since it is also not common restaurant in town, i really recommended this one for you.

Tom's by Tom Aikens, The Langham Jakarta

Bahasa l English A sunny weekend where the pandemic conditions in Indonesia have been getting better lately. Activities in public spaces are getting normal, so we can find some places with crowds. One of them is this restaurant which took a few weeks for me to make a reservation in advance because it was full every weekend. The Langham Jakarta has only been operating this year and has attracted great enthusiasm from Jakarta's community. No exception with the restaurant which was built with a luxurious British concept and developed by a chef from England, Tom Aikens who manages a Michelin Star restaurant in London. Carrying the name Tom's by Tom Aikens with a variety of classic British dishes. The location of this restaurant is on the L floor, the reception area, and arguably the 62nd floor. A restaurant with a large enough area capacity, high ceilings, touches of white, blue, red sofas, and gold-tone lamps give the room an English-style atmosphere. Seen quite crowded visitors ...

Real Ingredients of Japan, Sushi Maru, PIK, Jakarta

Bahasa l English 2022 is here! Welcoming the new year with joy and enthusiasm. This time I will tell you about a Japanese restaurant in the Golf Island area, PIK which is currently one of the trending destinations in Jakarta. It is undeniable that Japanese cuisine has indeed become one of Jakarta's society's favorites, so many Japanese restaurants can be found here. As a lover of authentic food, I really prefer Japanese restaurants that prioritize quality ingredients and classic tastes, although the current twist food variant is also very interesting. Sushi Maru has been operating since the end of 2021, with a Japanese feel in general using a wooden theme interior throughout the area. There are two floors with a large area capacity. But keep in mind, you should make a reservation before coming here, especially on weekends. One of the top menus here is Japanese Oyster, especially Reiwa Oyster, this dish is only available upon request. With a size that is much larger than the lo...
