One of the seafood dishes, cobia fish is indeed commonly found in tropical waters, but it is quite rare to find this dish in the Jakarta area. Served with kecombrang butter, then ginseng leaves. The slightly strong texture is chewy and the taste is smooth compared to other fish and in fact, cobia fish can also be used as sashimi. Just mix this dish, kecombrang butter with a yellowish color and thick, sweet and savory.

This month has indeed become a moment where the restaurant and hotel business has begun to attract customers with various offers. Not to forget, the opening of several new restaurants has also colored the city of Jakarta recently. One of them is August, which is located in the Sudirman area, more precisely at Sequis Tower. This restaurant has opened on November 25th, 2021. The elegant and premium concept can be seen from the exterior and interior of the restaurant.
The area is quite spacious with a charming bar in the front room, then an open kitchen which provides an interesting experience for guests to see the activities of the chefs in the lively kitchen. On weekends, you can see the number of guests filling the entire table, it's a good idea to make a reservation in advance.
When I had dinner there, they happened to have no available alcohol because they were taking care of licensing and distribution issues. So I brought wine with a corkage fee of IDR 250,000, quite worth it. As is known, the main chef here is Hans, where I have known him for a long time, having been in 5-star hotels in Jakarta which is synonymous with fine dining.
If previously worked in a hotel, this time it was a different step where he revealed that he would provide all his creations in the form of dishes in his own restaurant. Still with a menu that is quite similar, Western and Asian twist fusion dishes combine with a fairly complex reconstruction technique, the use of varied elements in one dish.
Instead of fine dining, August provides a casual and more homey experience, both in terms of atmosphere and dish presentation. But we can still enjoy dishes with artistic presentation and there are elements that give a harmony of taste. Here's the menu I tried:
1. Beef Tartare (Rp 165.000)
The menu is certainly quite familiar, fresh and cold processed beef combined with yeasted aioli, and served with a mustard cracker. The dishes look familiar and interesting, the texture and quality of the meat used are also fresh. Unfortunately, the overall taste tends to be salty, but after improving, I can taste the beef tartare which is enough to increase my appetite.
2. Brussel Sprout (Rp 130.000)
Typical Brussels sprouts served with soy, lime glaze, and rice crispies. Crispy and savory texture, then the interesting aroma of cabbage really pamper the tongue. Although the overall direction of the taste is still salty, I quite enjoy it and because I am also a fan of salty. Not much complex from this dish, it could be an option as a side dish.
3. Cobia (Rp 210.000)
4. Foie PB & J (Rp 195.000)
A recommended snack dish, even though the price is quite high for 3 pieces, the mixture of foie gras is served with candied peanut and a unique slice of grapes on it so that it gives a harmonious taste sensation.
5. Frozen Coffee (Rp 95.000)
Dessert dishes that you must try, especially for you dessert and coffee lovers. Not a lot of complex elements, but presented with a dazzling look. The right blend of flavors, balanced sweetness, and palm sugar and honey. The aroma and taste of the coffee are just right and not excessive.
The overall dinner experience here is quite ok, the atmosphere is comfortable, the service is good. Interesting and elegant reconstructed dishes, only a few issues with seasoning which resulted in some dishes being too salty. The price is relatively high where per person can spend IDR 500,000 - 1,000,000 to enjoy food and drinks here. Please try and what do you think, please inform me.
