Home Always Best, Belitung

Lately i have been spent my time at hometown during long public holiday, in Aidil Fitri big day for all Moslem around  the world, Indonesia has it own culture. in huge amount of people would going back to their hometown around Indonesia. And for me, i went back to my hometown at Belitung island. These time, Belitung has been quiet famous around travellers, it is a small island next to Bangka. Belitung is famous by white sand beach and seafood.

As what i remember, long years ago, this island was really quiet with small town, cosey. But this time, Belitung has become travel destination which pull quiet a lot tourist around the country or even overseas. Especially during this public holiday, most all beaches, restaurant, hotel and any tourism spot have quiet amount of tourist.

Actually, i used to back in hometown for twice or three times in a year in any holiday or famili occasion. With my family, we are often went to the beach. Enjoying the beach, swim around  and don't forget the seafood. There's many people are selling seafood in traditional way, with wooden cabin, also chairs and tables. But these time, we have special occasion at home, we are going to do our own roasted fish.

My father served by himself exactly. He's really has a passion about food, grilled fish marinated with soy sauce.

Same seasoning with different type of fish. Each has different texture of meat and taste. Next day, we went to one of popular culinary spot, where always have a crowded cars and bus, even when just open at the morning. It's called Songsui Afu, Songsui is typical chinese dish which mean Pork Offal Soup.

As the name, usually Songsui using parts of Pork, start for meat, liver, lungs and others offal. But nowadays it's available served with meat only. As for me not into other parts, so i just order soup with meat only, veggies, tofu and bunch of crunchy pork skin. Soup is really taste good, authentic chinese dish and rice wine vinegar strongly good, all ingredients blended well done in the soup.

Next dish i'd like to tell is Empek-Empek, actually this is Palembang city typical dish, but recently most all west parts of Indonesia are producing this on their culinary list. As this one, my mom prepared it at home, homemade empek-empek. Just let you know, it's sort of like fish cake, but has different texture, chewy inside and crispy outside skin.

Good empek-empek is the one with real fish taste, even thoug mixed with flour dough, but fish must be as based ingredient should be strong as well. It's macth served with black vinegar sauce, make sure not thick sauce and little spicy would give more pleasure. Last dish here is cookies. My mom has great skill making pastry, start from cake, chocolate and cookies in any flavors. This time she's made a lovelt Sago Cheese Cookies.

She's been skilled made this since long time ago. soft texture, and cheese indeed! i could finished one jar all myself probably.

Bahasa l English A sunny weekend where the pandemic conditions in Indonesia have been getting better lately. Activities in public spaces are getting normal, so we can find some places with crowds. One of them is this restaurant which took a few weeks for me to make a reservation in advance because it was full every weekend. The Langham Jakarta has only been operating this year and has attracted great enthusiasm from Jakarta's community. No exception with the restaurant which was built with a luxurious British concept and developed by a chef from England, Tom Aikens who manages a Michelin Star restaurant in London. Carrying the name Tom's by Tom Aikens with a variety of classic British dishes. The location of this restaurant is on the L floor, the reception area, and arguably the 62nd floor.
