Kurune, Jakarta

Bahasa l English

The rainy season is almost every day in Jakarta. Heavy rain and strong winds, Hopefully, everything will stay safe and there will be no natural disasters such as floods that often haunt the city of Jakarta. This time I will tell you about a modern Japanese restaurant that is on my recommendation list. Kurune has been operating for some time since the end of 2021, a location in the South Jakarta area which is indeed a destination with many Japanese restaurants.

Kurune itself means let's eat in English. The restaurant building is quite large and does have a large area with a lot of seating capacity. There is a ground floor with an open kitchen and bar area, then a second floor with several private rooms. Modern Japanese nuance with a touch of wooden patterns, soft colors, combined with violet, golden on several sides so that it looks stunning.

A variety of classic to modern Japanese menus can be found here. With the quality standards of fresh ingredients, they serve up impeccable dishes. In addition, experienced professional Japanese chefs certainly process food with good techniques. Especially fresh ingredients such as oyster, sashimi, or beef.

One of the top on the menu, fresh oysters are imported from Hokkaido with larger sizes than local ones. Starting from Rp. 150,000 per pc to Rp. 3,300,000 for 24 pcs. The creamier taste, the distinctive aroma of the sea is really delicious enjoyed with lemon or the dressing provided. Then there is Bone Marrow with fresh salmon and egg tartar, a creamy taste and a pleasant harmony of flavors when eaten together.

Aoyama, a beautiful dish with 7 kinds of fresh sashimi from maguro, salmon, amaebi, and etc. Absolutely stunning presentation, fresh sashimi in perfect cuts. The variety of kushiyaki is also a must-try, Tsukune Cheese (chicken meatball with cheese), pork belly, and many others.

The tempting main menu, of course, is USDA Prime Bone-in Rib Eye 500g (Rp 800,000++) Served with signature and chimichurri sauce. Tender meat with a fragrant smoky aroma, the enjoyment of this dish is undeniable using premium and quality ingredients. Don't need a lot of dressing, simple salt and pepper make this is special.

Other special dishes such as Barramundi one whole size with a classic Japanese-style presentation using lemon, konbu feelings and ponzu sauce. Not many dressings or sauces accompany this dish. Good enough with the soft barramundi fish, the distinctive smoky aroma really appreciates the ingredients.
According to the Japanese concept, the sushi menu is certainly available with various choices. One of my favorites, Salmon Mango, modern specialty sushi with salmon mixed with mayo and topped with fresh sweet mango slices. Once eaten, the overall taste is so delightful. Ike Sumi Soba is also an interesting dish, cold black soba with squid ink served with grilled squid which is my favorite as a seafood lover.

Last but not least, don't miss the sweet dessert. How about Okinawa Cheesecake, a layer of cheese with ube and crumble crust into an interesting combination. It should be eaten together to give a varied taste. Dorayaki can also be a recommendation, it's rare to find the original dorayaki in Jakarta, it looks simple but the red bean taste is legit and sweet, it really makes you feel happy when enjoying it.
The whole experience here is very memorable, the atmosphere is comfortable, besides enjoying the food, I can see clearly the activities of the chefs who are busy preparing dishes. All dishes are made with good quality ingredients, according to non-frozen standards, besides that Japanese chef who of course have reliable techniques to make dishes. You can also enjoy a variety of cocktails inspired by the Japanese style. We recommend that you make a reservation in advance, especially at mealtimes or weekends.

Tom's by Tom Aikens, The Langham Jakarta

Bahasa l English A sunny weekend where the pandemic conditions in Indonesia have been getting better lately. Activities in public spaces are getting normal, so we can find some places with crowds. One of them is this restaurant which took a few weeks for me to make a reservation in advance because it was full every weekend. The Langham Jakarta has only been operating this year and has attracted great enthusiasm from Jakarta's community. No exception with the restaurant which was built with a luxurious British concept and developed by a chef from England, Tom Aikens who manages a Michelin Star restaurant in London. Carrying the name Tom's by Tom Aikens with a variety of classic British dishes. The location of this restaurant is on the L floor, the reception area, and arguably the 62nd floor.
