Sour Green Pickled Grouper, Suji-Suan Cai Yu, Ashta District 8

Bahasa l English

One of the trending Chinese restaurants in Jakarta with its top menu of Sour Green Pickled Grouper Soup, Grouper soup with meigan-cai, Chinese style salted, dried vegetable. They have several outlets spread from North Jakarta to South Jakarta. This time I visited a branch in Ashta District 8 which we know is one of the trending mall areas in Jakarta at the moment. Located on the UG floor in a corner area close to the elevator.

Just like any Chinese restaurant with a classic style interior and decoration. Guests are quite busy at dinner time. A fairly large area with a lot of seating capacity. The main menu that is a favorite is the Sour Green Pickled Grouper, a fish soup dish with salted vegetables and various spices to give it a fragrant aroma.

For this one, it costs IDR 379,000 ++ per fish. Apart from grouper, you can also choose carp at a more affordable price. From being fragrant, this clear broth is delicious and warm, enjoyed with soft grouper fish. This dish is also served with crispy fish skin which is served separately. Unfortunately, the fish skin is cold and smells fishy so it is not enjoyable.

Then I tried Mala Chong Qing Fried Chicken (Rp. 128,000 ++), this dish has indeed become one of the Chinese dishes that is quite trending in the millennial generation. Fried chicken with a lot of typical Chinese chilies. Not much can be explained from this dish, indeed fried chicken is crunchy and salty, while so many chilies cannot be consumed due to their spicy and bitter taste and are commonly used for flavor enhancers. And you can see the number of chilies is even more covered up the chicken.

Overall the dishes here feel mediocre or common Chinese dishes that we usually find in Indonesia. In some cities, fish soup with pickled dried vegetables has even become a daily food. The food presentation is attractive, staff service is normal and there are some moments that don't pay attention to customers. To come here again I will think twice of course. What do you think?

Tom's by Tom Aikens, The Langham Jakarta

Bahasa l English A sunny weekend where the pandemic conditions in Indonesia have been getting better lately. Activities in public spaces are getting normal, so we can find some places with crowds. One of them is this restaurant which took a few weeks for me to make a reservation in advance because it was full every weekend. The Langham Jakarta has only been operating this year and has attracted great enthusiasm from Jakarta's community. No exception with the restaurant which was built with a luxurious British concept and developed by a chef from England, Tom Aikens who manages a Michelin Star restaurant in London. Carrying the name Tom's by Tom Aikens with a variety of classic British dishes. The location of this restaurant is on the L floor, the reception area, and arguably the 62nd floor. A restaurant with a large enough area capacity, high ceilings, touches of white, blue, red sofas, and gold-tone lamps give the room an English-style atmosphere. Seen quite crowded visitors
