Another Level of Korean Grill BBQ, Surasang, PIK Jakarta

Bahasa l English

Talking Korean BBQ is certainly not something new to Jakarta residents. Currently, we can find a wide selection of Korean grill restaurants from casual to all-you-can-eat at very affordable prices. But don't forget, for dishes made from meat ingredients, especially beef, the quality will be the main thing to pay attention to. There is a price of course there is quality.

Surasang, you can guess from the name that this is a Korean restaurant. Located on Pantai Indah Kapuk, Jakarta, which is one of the most popular culinary destinations. Surasang just opened its outlet on 31st Oct 2022. However, on my previous visit there some areas of the restaurant are still under construction and I did not take some of the interior pictures. But you can see below, there is so much elegant touch, the golden colour throughout the restaurant show it is high-end dining including with a bar.

Therefore, I will immediately tell you about the dishes in Surasang. The concept of this restaurant is quite common, namely the Korean grill house which is quite popular with the Jakarta community. But here Surasang offers Korean bbq at a more premium level with imported meat ingredients from the US, Spain, and even Japan which we know are premium beef producing.

Like Korean restaurants in general, guests will be served banchan, side dishes such as kimchi, jorim, namul, etc. Each table is equipped with a modern grill machine with smoke suction through the bottom of the table so the heat doesn't interfere. For meat choices, beef and pork are available, ranging from ribs, wagyu, porterhouse, wet aging, and dry aging to Japanese Kobe at fantastic prices.

Some of the menus that I tried, such as the Wagyu Chateaubriand (IDR 1,300,000), the most tender part of the tenderloin with a medium rare level recommended by the chef, a tender and juicy meat. Each guest will be assisted by the staff to the grill so you don't have to bother doing it yourself, but if you want to increase the cooking level of the meat, you are welcome to grill it yourself.

Pork dishes like Pork Belly (IDR 165,000) or Marinated Pork Shoulder (IDR 155,000) are no less interesting. It feels incomplete if you go to a Korean grill restaurant but don't enjoy pork. Basically, I'm not a pork lover, but as I said, there is a price for the quality as pork imported from Spain has a very tender texture and a fragrant aroma.

Other authentic Korean dishes such as Seafood Sundubu Jigae (IDR 125,000), Japchae (IDR 120,000) can be found here. Overall, I personally am not too expert with Korean dishes because I have never been there, but when compared to most Korean restaurants which tend to be savory and spicy, Surasang serves Korean dishes with a more smooth, savory, and sweet taste.

Although I'm not sure how Korean food actually tastes, I'm sure the Korean grill experience at Surasang was memorable. As a fan of high-end dining, this is the first time I have come across a premium Korean Grill House option with amazing ingredients. If you have the opportunity to go there, maybe you know more about Korean cuisine, you can try and tell me how the experience was.

Tom's by Tom Aikens, The Langham Jakarta

Bahasa l English A sunny weekend where the pandemic conditions in Indonesia have been getting better lately. Activities in public spaces are getting normal, so we can find some places with crowds. One of them is this restaurant which took a few weeks for me to make a reservation in advance because it was full every weekend. The Langham Jakarta has only been operating this year and has attracted great enthusiasm from Jakarta's community. No exception with the restaurant which was built with a luxurious British concept and developed by a chef from England, Tom Aikens who manages a Michelin Star restaurant in London. Carrying the name Tom's by Tom Aikens with a variety of classic British dishes. The location of this restaurant is on the L floor, the reception area, and arguably the 62nd floor. A restaurant with a large enough area capacity, high ceilings, touches of white, blue, red sofas, and gold-tone lamps give the room an English-style atmosphere. Seen quite crowded visitors
