As the title, i am having taste of Korea dishes. But it is a modern Korea actually. In thins Friday night i am attending Gala Dinner with Chef Edward Kwon at Shangri La Hotel. This chef is one of famous celebrity chef in Korea. He doesn't gave an huge anthusiasm for many people in town when we knew that he ll come here.
Function is going to start on 7.15pm, i just heading to Shangri La hotel after work. When arrived , it has quiet many attendance. Many food bloggers, politicians, journalist & media, enterpreneur and entertainment people i guess. It seems everyone doesn't have high passion in this event including me too, i just can't wit to have this gala dinner.
The event is little late than supposed to, all attendance just get in the hall on 7.30pm. I absolutely get on my seat on table 14 along with 6 guests others. Just couple minutes all people in, event started by Indonesia karate show did by some young boys and girls.It is entertaining, each of them are showing their skills and in quiet time, Chef Edward Kwon come out from the backwall display. Then he is joining the karate students while they are dancing by Gangnam Style theme.
After gave a short speech, Chef Edward just start the cooking demo show. He's going to make a Soft Bean Curd Korean Style. He's been explaining before, he is going to make a modern Korea dishes, so it's not only about bulgogi, kimchi or bimbimbab.
It only took him 10 mins to served this appetizer. after that, the waiters and waitress get served the dish to all guests.
This is Yeon Don Boo, It's served with beautifully plating. The bean curd is really soft but in balanced firm texture. Korean herbs smells really good, it has tasty black sesame dressing and garlic is crispy.
It is really delicate,and it perfect while enjoyed it with Penfolds Bin 51, white wine. Then we ready for second dish is Rice Veloute, it is a Potato Pearl with sweet potato cream and bunch of pine nuts. This soup is super creamy, sweet and there's a nice crunchy texture of pine nuts.
After finished this, all guest are pleased with another wine is Penfolds Bin 2, Shiraz Mourvedre, red wine.
The next dish is coming, Hae Mul Nang Chae, it is a Korean style Tiger Prawn and scallops with Mustard, and perilla dressing.
This dish have fresh ingredients start from the prawn, scallops and all the vegetables, it is really matched with the dressing taste perfect. Then show is continuing by around 30 children of Korean who living in Indonesia. They are doing a choir of Korea songs. They all looks sweet and really doing great job.
sings couple of songs, then all guest are ready for the main course is Kalbi Steak (soy marinated rib eye).
It served with Kimchi chutney, pomme puree and root vegetables, steak absolutely great, nice cook, perfect color and texture. The sauce is fantastic indeed, Kalbi sauce has it own taste amongs the other sauce. It is perfect matched with the steak.
Don't forget the wine is always ready in a glass, absolutely great combination. Last dish coming is the dessert, Yuzu Curd. It is a bokbunja chiffon with green tea cake and basil fluid gel. It is very beautiful, nice color and delightful.
All foods are great! i am totally satisfied in this dinner. The most i love is the bean curd absolutely great! and Shangri La does have good service, all the waiter and waitress stand by ready to serve all the guest. The dinner event is really awesome with some great shows and Chef Edward also very nice, funny and he cooks well done. I love the foods!
